Printing Company Sees Jump in Productivity After Connecting to Midco
Since 1964, Fargo-based J&M Printing has evolved from a small print shop into a national printing company providing graphic, printing, digital and mailing services, plus promotional items and gaming services. The company prides itself on being large enough to deliver efficient service, but small enough to personally care about each customer.
And now, they’re working faster than ever.
“Nowadays, with the way things are with instant gratification, speed is everything,” says Rich Maras, J&M Printing’s Regional Vice President of Sales. “We try to tell everybody that we’re going to be fast — that turnaround time is going to be quicker than what they can expect from another printer.”
To deliver on that promise, J&M Printing depends on reliable, speedy internet for critical functions — including downloading client files, uploading large print projects, and interacting with customers on an internet-based phone system.
"We transfer files consistently, and we need that speed to be better, faster — to be able to get more done in the day and not having to slow our progress down with slow internet speed," says Maras, who made sure to do his due diligence and check into several connectivity options.
He was sold on Midco’s reputation for reliability, customer service and speed.
"I had visited with a lot of clients who had Midco service, and they had said, 'You’re not going to be disappointed. They’re awesome,'"Maras recalls. "I knew I wanted fiber. We did see what the other speeds were non-fiber. But as soon as it was confirmed fiber was ready for us, it was a no brainer."
Maras contacted Midco, and his representative handled everything.
"It just seemed like I didn’t have to walk through the whole operation," Maras says. "I could just say this is what we need, and then from there, Midco just took care of it. The customer service is awesome. We were lacking that before. It was all very good, very hands off for me. The next thing you know, we’re up and running."
Enhanced Productivity and Customer Service
J&M Printing's productivity is better than ever now that designers and other staff are connected to Midco's private fiber network, which delivers faster speeds and greater consistency through a customized Ethernet solution.
"We don't have hesitations anymore in our internet service," notes Maras. "What used to take 15 minutes to upload a certain file size now takes about a minute and a half to two minutes. You add that up on how many files during the day — there's a lot more getting done. We're not sitting around twiddling our thumbs while we're moving large files."
As a result, J&M Printing is completing print jobs more quickly. Maras says the Midco fiber connection has also improved the company's internet-based phone communications.
"They would cut out multiple times a day while we were on the phone with a client, looking like we hung up on them," recalls Maras. "Now, with the consistent up and down speed of our fiber coming in, it doesn't interrupt our phones. So therefore, you don't have that embarrassing moment anymore of 'Oh, it's the phone down,' and trying to get back on with the client that's probably hard to get ahold of to begin with. So that is a positive there, definitely."
Positioned for Growth
J&M Printing experienced benefits from using Midco within a few weeks.
"The feeling after [implementation] is just awesome. This was the best decision we could make. The benefits are awesome with Midco," says Maras. Now, he's happily focused on all the new business J&M Printing can take on today, and in the future.
"Just call Midco. There were no hiccups, no second-guessing during the whole process — and really, little work on our end," he adds.
