Over 402 million terabytes of data are created, captured or transferred every day.1 With this much data traveling around the world, businesses today need to stay up and running at all times.
At Midco, our Network Operations Center is continuously monitored, meaning you get more uptime, lower latency, better bandwidth and less network congestion.
No matter what time of day or day of the week you’re reading this, Midco’s local team of experts is monitoring our 17,000+ miles of fiber network to make sure all systems are running optimally for our customers.
This is all done thanks to Steve Beach, Midco NOC Manager, and his team of highly skilled technicians.
“We’re kind of like a 9-1-1 center for internet,” said Beach. “Our team is behind the scenes monitoring our entire Midco Fiber Network 24/7 so that all the infrastructure our business services ride over are functioning properly.”
From overseeing our fiber and corporate networks to incident and change management, Beach and his team are troubleshooting, triaging and investigating nonstop to proactively keep our network secure and your business running. This results in more uptime, lower latency, better bandwidth and less network congestion.
This level of service is the standard at Midco. We understand that if the network you rely on goes down or has an interruption, that means lost business. According to the Uptime Intelligence Annual Outage Survey, more than half of respondents estimated their last outage cost them more than $100,000. The urgency to keep our network and your data protected and available to you at all times is our top priority at the NOC.
Working 24/7, our dedicated team is continually monitoring our network to protect customers’ data from threats and other attacks.
“We have robust network monitoring tools that alert the team whenever there is an issue, whether that’s a power outage, an equipment failure, fiber cut or sometimes even mother nature,” added Beach.
Reviewing the network as frequently as our team does allows us to build in quicker reaction times to things that can happen with the network.
“We're alerted very quickly if an issue occurs,” stated Beach. “Response times can vary depending on what the problem is, but typically, we can have a team on the ground and get the service restored within two to four hours.”
Regardless of the issue or how it happened, Beach and his team are committed to providing best-in-class protection for Midco customers.
“At the end of the day, our job is to be proactive to try and find problems, correct them before they occur to maintain uptime for our customers,” shared Beach.
While it’s standard for telecommunications providers to offer network support, the Midco difference is our support structure and certified expert technicians.
Network and data problems are complex. That’s why we approach network oversight collaboratively. This method allows for a thorough review from all our team members so proper investigation and testing are done. With this type of collaboration, our customers can rest assured they have solid solutions going into the future.
“Here at Midco we have a smaller, much closer-knit team,” said Beach. “Everybody knows what everybody else is doing, and they all kind of know how to do a little bit of everything. So, there's plenty of cross training and many opportunities for everyone to step in and help in all areas.” With over 75 years of collective experience, the team’s diversified backgrounds mean they are able to solve problems together and troubleshoot effectively.
Our staff receive top-tier training from the Society of Cable Telecommunication Engineers (SCTE) and the National Cable Television Institute (NCTI). Many hold certifications like SCTE and Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA). This means your business is in the hands of certified experts dedicated to delivering unparalleled protection.
A key piece of providing this exceptional service is keeping our equipment and software upgraded to the latest and greatest technology. The past four years, Midco has proactively made key upgrades and advancements with Fiber Forward, an expansive investment that improves our already robust fiber network and next-gen fiber tech to prepare the region for 10 gig speeds.
“We like to stay ahead of any potential problems to ensure we remain stable and our network continues to be solid for our customers,” stated Beach.
