Picking the right internet connection can be hard. From knowing how much speed you need on a daily basis to understanding how much you need to back up files, there are a lot of factors that come into play when looking at your internet options. Even understanding the terms thrown at you can be quite difficult.

At Midco, one of the biggest choices that we see customers make is whether you want a dedicated fiber internet connection, as opposed to a more ‘standard’ business internet delivery method. It’s also a tricky decision to make when you’re in a transitional phase of growing your business but aren’t sure if/when you need to upgrade. Midco offers some of the best dedicated internet connections in the market, but they aren’t right for everyone.

What do we mean by dedicated fiber internet?

We mean that your internet is the fastest, most reliable connection you can get in the market today. With speeds up to 100 gigabits per second, dedicated fiber-optic internet is the product to choose if you’re looking for absolute maximum bandwidth.

Beyond just speed, dedicated fiber is also extremely reliable and features unstoppable uptime and fewer dropped packets than a normal internet connection. Plus, it’s designed to support business-critical applications – and because of that we also have a dedicated support team for dedicated fiber customers. There’s even a direct phone number to that team to ensure that someone is available to “talk tech” anytime.

How do dedicated fiber internet and network-level guarantees go together?

Our dedicated fiber also comes with a service level agreement (SLA), a contract that binds a service provider and a customer together, while outlining quality, availability and responsibilities. Within our dedicated fiber SLA, we guarantee a specific amount of uptime that we need to stand behind 24/7 – something that you likely won’t get with a PON connection. We continuously augment our network to provide the necessary capacity to achieve the performance guarantees in our SLA.

How do we ensure connection quality? The equipment we use on our dedicated internet connections gives us more visibility into the network, too. This allows our Midco Network Operations Center (NOC) to keep an eye on your connection all the time. Our NOC has real-time data on the quality of your connection, allowing us to respond quicker when your service is impacted. In many cases, we can dispatch a truck before customers even notice the connection is down.

Why doesn’t everyone get a dedicated connection?

Dedicated connections complete with private networking options and SLAs can cost a bit more – and your business needs should justify the connection with your ROI.

For most customers we work with, Midco Business Internet is more than enough to start with, and it comes at a more realistic price point. A 1 Gbps connection from Midco can support dozens of users, accommodate most backup servers, support large data transfers, handle large conference calls and more. It’s a great solution for anyone with typical internet needs, or whose budget doesn’t quite align.

So, we want to know: are you a new business owner looking to purchase your internet connection? Are you an existing customer wondering if you’ve outgrown your cable modem? Below are a few quick questions you can use to explore whether Midco Dedicated Fiber Internet is right for you.

These are all great questions to start with, but we have lots more to talk through to truly flesh out the options. Or, if you’re looking to future-proof your connection for whatever is coming next, Midco can grow with you to support your increasing needs.
